Miss Maie Ashe or Ash,actress, reclining, smoking a cigarette. Dover St Studios. Postcard, Rapid Photo London EC. c 1908
actress

Postcard mailed to Switzerland in 1908.
Miss Maie Ashe , a chorus girl who became a well known actress of the time and led a short and colourful life. Born in Clapton, East London, her address at the time of her death was given as 55 Kenninghall Road, Clapton, E.5.
Biographical details, as far as I can ascertain
Born Eleanor Mabel Eugenie Ash, 31 May 1888, daughter of James T.W. Ash who married Eleanor Mary Young in Bethnal Green in 1886 and subsequently died in 1921. She Married Stanley Francis Hicks in 1909 in Westminster, an actor, also known as Stanley Brett , brother of Seymour Hicks.
The Gielgud theatre in Shaftesbury Avenue was opened as the Hicks Theatre in 1906. She acted alongside her future husband, and his brother Seymour Hicks and his wife Ellaline Terriss.,
A very public divorce ensued in 1913, and she then married another actor and comedian, Fred Allandale, born Frederick Arnold, 1872 – 1921.

Maie Ashe died as Eleanor Mabel Eugenie Arnold at 24 Marine Parade in Brighon on 13 December 1923 aged 35.. Probate was granted to her mother, but the will was revoked in 1934 and administration granted to Margaret Mabel Ellaline Grace Mary (!) Hicks,(b.1910) who had married Wilfrid Malone in 1930. Perhaps this was Maie Ashe’s daughter? An Eleanor Mabel E T PRIDMORE was born in Lambeth in 1910.

Rapid Photo Printing Card no. 3545 See also cards 1831, 1234 & 1277.
Maie Ashe and Fred Allandale may be seen HERE although there is an error in the text which states that she died in 1921, rather than the correct year of 1923. Fred Arnold, who ran the Premier Pierrot Troupe, died near Birmingham not 10 days after his wife, but two years before it.

167/365 Tired and weary from moving
move

Jun 16 167/365. Today was moving day. This photo was taken after Heather and I spent 7 hours loading the U-Haul in 90+ degrees heat (at least it didn’t hit 100 today) and a few minutes before we began the 2-hour drive to LaGrange. Yes, we’re a bit tired. We arrived in LaGrange about 9pm and it took us about 5 hours to unload, finishing around 2am. We were sore and exhausted but proud that we were able to do all the moving ourselves without any assistance (no family or friends were available to help). The fun part is that I get to do all this again next week when I go down to Albany to help my parents pack and move to LaGrange. At least this time my brothers and son will be available to help and it should be a much easier time. Week 24 of 52 of 2011. The theme is EMOTION.

Have you seen me on TV? Joel is an actor in California who loves to listen to the Feast of Fools more than once…
actor

Guys like Joel are the reason we work so hard on our podcasts.

Joel writes: "I am a new listener! I have been listening to you for about a week and have already exhausted the archives! You two are so interesting and funny! I’m an actor in Los Angeles. I’m attaching my picture, I know you guys don’t like fatties [note: On the contrary, we adore big boys like Joel. Phat carries phlava!] but I’m sending it anyway. I’m still cute! *grin* I am 39 and have only been out of the closet for 5 years. My boyfriend is currently incarcerated for a crime that he didn’t commit and if we ever get him out we are planning to get married whether Bush likes it or not! You guys make my work day go by much faster and make it a pleasure to be sitting at my desk all day. Thank you for all the time you put in to your podcasts! …FEAST OF FOOLS is worthy of not only full plays but repeated plays"

When I get letters like this I scream for joy. Because Joel is as eccentric, kooky and a big fan of The Price Is Right as we are. Can’t you just see him hugging Bob Barker? I can.

Oh, darling, when you’re near me
And you tenderly call my name
I know that my emotions

I’ve just got to have you, baby

I feel the earth move under my feet
I feel the sky tumbling down, tumbling down
I feel the earth move under my feet
I feel the sky tumbling down
I just lose control
Down to my very soul
I get a hot and cold all over
I feel the earth move under my feet
I feel the sky tumbling down,
Tumbling down, tumbling down…
