played as pawns in a struggle between two
empires. It is a saga of death, dislocation and
resistance that reverberates still – an event
unparallel in the history of the colonizing of

An elegy for Kodak (and film in general)

Two strange things happened simultaneously today:
1) I read that Kodak had filed for chapter 11, and
2) my oldest son asked what this roll of film was.
When trying to explain to him how the film was used, and how the cameras worked, the film was processed etc., I realised he didn’t have the vocabulary to understand what I was saying.
So it dawned on me that the day Kodak died, was the day I realised my sons would probably never understand what this is and most likely never ever find this a relevant technology to use for anything.

In Tuscany during the 13th and 14th centuries,
revolutionary changes in religion, art,
commerce and cities would alter the course of
civilization itself. This stunningly

new spiritual understanding would transform
the way we think about the world and our

A prison chain gang digs two fresh graves for
men destined to be executed that night. As
time slips away for the murderers’ salvation,
the grave diggers’ mixed reactions to the grim
task split them apart and unravel the progress.
The supervising boss is obliged to act himself,
and lead the group through the awful task and
morally justify the indifferent nature of the
world.
