Promotional tools are necessary to attract film enthusiast to watch your college short film. These tools also give your short film the chance to be recognized by short film festivals. Aside from tarpaulins, posters are also the effective tools to use in promoting your short film, because posters have the ability to communicate your information and offer great visual to your audience. If utilized properly, your posters can give your short film the attention it deserves.

•    Organize your information. Decide on the information that you want to include on your posters, so you will know where to place them. You should also know what information should come first. Knowing where the information should be placed will make it easier for you to come up with an organized over-all presentation of your posters. Try to make posters online by uploading your texts and graphics. You can also check poster templates online and get inspiration from the layouts.

•    Use legible text. Remember that your posters must be readable even from a distance, so always use readable and simple fonts. But if you have to use weird fonts for art’s sake, then make sure that the size and font color will make the texts legible.

•    Decide on the location of your posters. Look for high traffic areas in your school to make sure that the posters will get noticed. Your efforts will be put to waste if your posters are not noticeable by your audience.

•    Choose the right images. Your images should have the power to tell a story to catch your audience’s attention. Remember that the images on your poster are the first thing that your audience notices, so see to it that the images you use are powerful and eye-catching.

•    Avoid clutter. Never go overboard in designing your poster, because too many texts and images can confuse your audience. Just keep your message simple and your images limited.

•    Use harmonious colors. Be careful in combining colors, because wrong color combination can distract your audience. The appearance of your texts and visuals should also be clear and vibrant, so it is best to have your posters printed by a reputable online printer that is an expert on color prints. With their expertise in full-color printing, you can be confident that your posters will be effective promotional tools for your college short film.

Harlem Globetrotters, Panhandlers, and the China cultural revolution at Tiananmen Square rarely share anything in common – except for an Oscar Nomination. Distributed by Passion River Films, these independent films are compiled in the new DVD release: HARDWOOD / RYAN / SUNRISE OVER TIANANMEN SQUARE: Unique Award Winning Short Films.

In “Hardwood,” documentary filmmaker Hubert Davis, son of former Harlem Globetrotter Mel Davis, explores how his father’s decisions affected his life and those of his extended family. At its core, this Oscar nominated documentary validates the power of redemption and healing the bonds between father and son.

Academy Award Winner for Best Animated short film, “Ryan” is an independent film tribute to Canadian animator Ryan Larkin who produced some of the most influential animated films of his time. Today, Ryan lives on welfare and panhandles for spare change in downtown Montreal. Director Chris Landreth questions how an artistic genius can tumble into life on the streets in this animated short film.

“Sunrise Over Tiananmen Square” offers a personal documentary of political upheaval in China through a rich collage of original artwork and archival photographs. China born director Shui-Bo Wang illustrates his family’s ordeal during the Cultural Revolution, and his experience during the chaos of the Tiananmen Square uprising decades later in this Oscar nominated documentary.

As I always said and believe that accountants can work in any industry. The scope and range of this professional is sometimes limitless.

You might see girls or boys waiting for hours in rain for their favorite celebrity just to get a view of them or a signed autograph. But, if you are an accountant and you also have a “Favorite celeb” then things could be other way round! Or may I say, these celebs need an autograph (let say it signature) from you for their movies! Isn’t it interesting? But How?

According to a corporate website, Iron Man 2, which stars actors including Robert Downey Jnr, Samuel L Jackson and Gwyneth Paltrow, is set to take the box office by storm when it opens across the UK on Friday, after winning over critics in the US on its release last month.

And it has been revealed that York-based accountant ‘Garbutt and Elliott’ has invested more than £8m in the movie, on behalf of clients of its wealth management team.

Jeremy Gibbs, director of Garbutt and Elliott wealth management, admitted the investment is unusual, but said such investments are being sought by the business amid the continuing uncertainty in the economy.

The investment in Iron Man 2 follows a financial commitment from Garbutt and Elliott – which performed strongly last year, with a 15 per cent increase in fee income, and almost doubled its office space – to the development of a renewable energy plant in Grimsby, which will create biofuel from crops and produce numerous Eco-friendly by-products including animal feed and bottled gas.

Could This Be Done in Pakistan?

So, if you are an accountant or in a wealth management department of any corporate group, there could be a possibility that a future star need your approval for his/he next blockbuster?

I talked with Mr. Ahsan Raza Khan on behalf of Pakistanacca.com, a finance manager at UBL Asset Management. He said, “In Pakistan, Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan oversee this business and lays down the rules to run the business. So far, asset managers on behalf of their clients, can invest in Money Market and Stocks. Where investment in real estate is also added by SECP for increasing the Investment Avenues”.

So I ask him whether in Pakistan we can see asset management companies are investing in movies? Pakistani movies especially?

“Iron Man 2 is a different story, but yes it is possible that in future SECP could allow the asset managers in Pakistan to invest in Entertainment Business on behalf of their clients”, he said.

Entertainment he said, not movies. Well only time will tell whether SECP could allow such investments and whether our entertainment industry could compel the authorities by impressing with their work for law making.

What do you think? Is our entertainment industry strong enough to capture an eye of SECP Law makers?

Entertainment reporter Tim Estiloz documents Marilyn Monroe’s film legacy as a comedienne and dramatic actress in this broadcast tribute. Marilyn’s abilities as a serious actress were often overlooked… due to her larger then life image as Hollywood’s greatest sex symbol. However, her resume of film work is impressive ranging from the comedic to the tragically dramatic. Clips from nine of her films are featured in this TV report… from her work as a starlet in “All About Eve”… to her iconic performances in “The Seven Year Itch” and “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes”… to her final screen role with Clark Gable in “The Misfits”. This report also features censored footage from “The Seven Year Itch” and rare unseen footage from her last – never completed – film, “Something’s Got To Give”. Most design teams only dream about the recognition and confirmation of their creativity and talent being seen by others. Wander Graphics’ and Wander Films’ creative team of Joshua Clark and Aaron Weber can watch their award-winning film along with hundreds of thousands of viewers at 10:45 pm EST, Sunday, September 24, 2006 on the IFC, Independent Film Channel, when their short, Wander, airs to a national audience.

No stranger to awards, Wander, the short, winner of the Ivy Film Festival for best experiential short film, tells the story of a young boy as he navigates the hard and dangerous streets of the inner city. On his journey he discovers a glass jar with a magic light that leads him into a better world, where anger is transformed into love. Directed by Joshua Clark and produced by Aaron Weber, both graduates of the School of Visual Arts bring these creative skills to their work in Wander Graphics, www.wandergraphics.com

The firm works in graphics, film and music to tell the client’s story in a unique and engaging way. From websites, special effects and directive photography, Clark and Weber share a passion evident in their portfolio.

Technology has advanced so much in the past few years that mobile phones have really become a one stop shop for most people. It is pretty common knowledge that just about anything and everything can be done on a mobile phone, including recording short films.
If you’re stuck with a phone that does all the irregular things, like make phone calls and send text messages, creating short films can be a great way to pass the time by while on holidays, on a road trip or even during your lunch break.

The Best Mobile Phone for Short Films

The iPhone 4 is a premier mobile phone that has the capability of recording short films on the phone. Not only can you create the short film but you can also use software that edits your film. Let’s be honest. You will not be able to make a full featured film or even a film of great quality but you can certainly let your creative juices flow.

Plus, knowing that you can create and edit short films on a mobile phone now, the future leaves the door open for even more advances. In a few years, you may be able to make styled commercials just using your mobile phone alone.

The First Short Film Recorded on a Mobile Phone

The first movie ever to be recorded and edited using only the iPhone 4 is called Apple of My Eye which was filmed by Micharl Korbel. This will never turn into an Oscar winning film but this short film is remarkable for other attributes.

Basically, a granddaughter and her grandfather are walking along the street eating ice cream, when they stop in front of a store window and watch a toy train pass by. The grandfather stands still, mesmerised by a toy train.

The viewer watches all of the places that the train travels to from the point of view of the grandfather. As the granddaughter tries to wake her grandfather from his daze he comes to tell her that he has an old story to tell her as they continue on their journey.

There is a certain level of creativity and thought behind the film that is portrayed well, even though it’s on a mobile phone. There is very little dialogue, but the music and imagery do spark a little emotion from the viewer.

Is the film a little cheesy? Of course. But what do you expect from recording a short film on a mobile phone. It is amazing that this type of quality and picture can be captured by just and that the entire short film can be edited on the thing you hold in your hand (the phone, for those playing at home).

So, now that you can see the levels of creativity that can be reached when it comes to filming a movie on your mobile phone, why don’t you try it out yourself?

This is the video 9 which will be made into a feature film by Tim Burton and Shane Acker. This video is fairly interesting and I found the version without the wierd sounds at the beginning.

The Short Film Network Brings Award-Winning Short Films to Mainstream Audiences Around the World

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) April 6, 2006 -–

The Short Film Network (SFN), a cooperative organization dedicated to the international promotion and distribution of short films, announces its public launch to bring acclaimed short films to audiences around the world.

What is a short film? Short films are considered by many to be an avant-garde art form, typically ranging between 5 and 40 minutes in length. These films have typically served as a platform to showcase cutting edge talent, ideas and filmmaking techniques. From an experimental heyday in the 1960s and 1970s to a moribund period in the 1990s, short films are showing signs of a major revival in the art world.

“Short films are as popular as ever. We get over 4,000 shorts submissions each year and we screen less than 100,” said Mike Plante, Short Film Programmer at the Sundance Film Festival. “North America is behind Europe in terms of distributing shorts and supporting short filmmakers. Hopefully, new avenues will open up as making shorts becomes easier and cheaper.”

Enter the Short Film Network, a new distribution channel and community with one purpose: to expose general audiences to cutting edge short films while providing exposure for deserving filmmakers.

“The accessibility of talent and equipment has created a boom in short film production but most of these films are never seen beyond festivals and private screenings,” said John Montague, Founder of the SFN. “Very few of the great short films receive the exposure and praise that they deserve.”

The initial programs offered by the SFN include:

Exposure: Short Stories on Film – a monthly series of short film compilations that are sent on DVDs to subscribers via direct mail

The Short Film Academy – a community of interest for short film enthusiasts with a variety of members-only services and benefits

The Short Film Awards – an annual event that will provide significant praise and financial awards for short films and their filmmakers

More information, including a trailer with cuts from the films featured on the Exposure compilations, is available at www.ShortFilmNetwork.com.

Filmmakers are encouraged to submit their short films to SFN, both new and old, for consideration. Information regarding terms and guidelines for submissions is available on the SFN Web site.

About the Short Film Network
