AtomFilms Names Vance Malone’s “Ocularist” In Top Ten Short Films Of 2004

Portland, OR (PRWEB) December 22, 2004

Award-winning Internet site today named Vance Malone’s eight-minute documentary short “Ocularist” #6 on its Top Ten list of 2004. Actively pursued by Atom Films’ Director of Acquisitions, Megan O’Neill, director Vance Malone finally agreed this year to license his 8-minute short “Ocularist” to the prestigious film site. “It was the best short film I saw at Sundance [2003],” said O’Neill. “The images really stuck with me.”

“Ocularist” became a featured addition to the AtomFilms site in September 2004. (

Malone filled the dual roles of director and editor for the documentary filmed in Portland by Food Chain Films. Produced by Kevin Sullivan, “Ocularist” highlights the work of Fredric Harwin, a local medical illustrator who creates beautifully lifelike, custom acrylic eyes. Disturbingly captivating, “Ocularist” electrifies the senses of sight and sound, demonstrating its theme of altered eyesight with artful camera angles and creative editing. The original soundtrack from Portland composer Auditory Sculpture is weaved seamlessly into the story line, mixing vocal tracks with the music to drive the narrative and enhance the emotional response. “I wanted the viewer to experience, rather than casually observe, this film,” said the director.
