Street trumpet – New Orleans, Jazzfest
This fellow is the lead trumpeter for a street jazz band called "To be continued brass band" that was playing on the corner of Bourbon & Canal streets in New Orleans, last week while I was visiting.
The band was initially formed by young men from the 7th and 9th Wards as a way to breakout of their neighborhood cycle of drugs, violence and jail in 2002.
An award winning documentary movie was released in 2008. The film From the Mouthpiece on Back documents the band’s rebirth after Hurricane Katrina to its now world touring schedule.
I was truly lucky to capture several images of these wonderful musicians on a street corner the night before Jazzfest began in New Orleans.
